Harley-Davidson got it’s extremely humble start up when William Harley and Arthur Davidson designed the first production motorcycle in 1903. The motorbike that was made in a small shed wooden was a racing bike with Harley-Davidson Motor company written on the front door. Harley-Davidson triumphed in the first race in 1905 and employed thier first personnel. The first motorcylce was sold to the Detroit Police Department in 1908 and it was utilized as a police service. In 1912 H-D started establishing it’s 6 story factory and exports it’s first bikes to Japan, the first time sales were extended outside of the United States.
In 1914, H-D was identified as “The Wrecking Crew” right after they joined the national racing circuit. By 1917 one-third of all motorcycles made would be sold to the military, and was also the start of the Service School for Harley-Davidson Mechanics, for both military and civilian bikes.
By 1918 half of all bikes produced were sent off to military for service in World War 1, and Corporal Roy Holtz is the first soldier to ride a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle in Germany. H-D became the largest company of motorcycle in 1920. They had over 2000 dealers in 67 countries across the world.
Most of the competitors of Harley-Davidson disappeared in 1931 except for the Indian Motorcycle Company. Harley-Davidson and Indian are the only two motorcycle companies in America, until 1953.
For the reason that world gets into into World War 2, so does Harley return into Military motorcycle development, and the service school is flipped directly into the military motorcycle service school, also referred to as the Quartermaster School for military mechanics. The Harley-Davidson Motorcycle were not really reached out by the public during this time.
